One of our #adhd clients was struggling at work; she had lost her mojo and wasn’t enjoying the job 🥹 she previously loved 💘

So, we started 🏁 with a deep dive🤿 and some self-assessment to identify what was getting her 🐐 goat.

⬇️

🔬 Micromanagement

🗼Rigid structures

🗣️ Unclear instructions

🥱 Repetitive tasks

⚖️ Feeling judged or misunderstood

🥁 Excessive noise

🧍‍♀️Waiting

⏱️Time management

ADHD comes with its challenges, but with the right strategies, we can turn these into strengths by working WITH our brains rather than AGAINST them.

Our experience supporting ADHD business owners meant we could reassure her that she was not alone and that together, we could improve things.

Here’s how we transformed her work experience.

We supported her to

👩‍💼👨‍💼 Negotiate more autonomy and variety.

🧑‍🏫 Help her colleagues understand what it’s like to have ADHD, explaining that this can foster empathy and patience.

⚖️ When feeling judged or misunderstood, Get the facts. If you feel brave enough, ask the person you think is judging you if they are. If the answer is yes, you can talk it out constructively. If the answer is no, let it go.

🗣️ Ask for clarification: If unsure, ask colleagues to repeat or explain what they mean. Repeat this to them to ensure you’ve processed it correctly.

✍️ Ask for instructions, deadlines, and tasks to be confirmed in a written rather than verbal format if that works better for you.

📲 Try apps to keep track of information to improve organisation, time management, focus, productivity, and concentration.

💷 We also helped our client apply for an Access to Work grant to pay for practical support, a support worker, a coach, and specialist equipment.

⚙️👩‍💻 It’s easy to get bamboozled by the choice of assistive technology, so we helped her to navigate text-to-speech software, mind-mapping tools, time management and tasking apps, noise-cancelling headphones and more.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑Everyone has intricacies that help them work effectively.

The tiniest of changes can achieve impressive results. 📈

🫂Be kind to yourself – Remember that progress beats perfection.

Our client has rediscovered her mojo productively and creatively by seeking the right support, embracing her differences, and practising open communication. 🎨📈
